"A Brief History of Ogden" Book Launch Event.
Tom Montgomery

A book on the history of the Municipality of Ogden, titled "A Brief History of Ogden", a project started by the mayor, Richard Violette, and supported by the Ogden Council as well as the Memphrémagog MRC, was officially presented to the mayor and council at an event at Ogden Town Hall on the 14th of October, 2021. Copies of the book were distributed to all eligible residents at Ogden's 85th birthday party in August 2022.

The book, a collection of stories about Ogden and the area from aboriginal times up to the 1950s, was produced by Heritage Ogden, a committee dedicated to researching and promoting Ogden's history, in the hope that a wider knowledge of our past will encourage closer community ties in the future.

An online version is available on the Municipality of Ogden website here.

Mayor Violette spoke of his efforts to bring the separate parts of Ogden together during his mandate, including the idea of a book on the history of the region that will be distributed at no charge to all of the current property owners, as well as newcomers to our area.

Jeff Packard, president of Heritage Ogden, outlined the reasons for including a wide variety of subject matter in the book. He described the steps involved in producing the collection, and thanked all of the authors and contributors.

Marie-Andrée Courval, who is both an Ogden councillor and on the Heritage Ogden committee, made the official presentation to the mayor and council.
