Field Trip to the Dunn Property
Tom Montgomery

One of the events that took place during Ogden's 90th birthday weekend, in mid-August 2022, was a field trip. Jeff Packard led a group of 15 people on a 4-hour hike through the Dunn Property, half on existing trails and half through open woods.

It turns out that the Dunn property is not only a scenic delight with diverse flora and fauna but it also embodies some interesting history.

Several topics were covered during this extended walk, including local topography and place names, geology, early granite quarries and the people who worked them, and the reasons why our international border almost, but not quite, coincides with the 45th degree of north latitude.

During the time spent at the international border, the group was treated to a visit from the RCMP, who arrived in their scary-looking Zodiac boat, probably alerted by one of the hidden sensors there. Satisfied that the group were not illegal immigrants sneaking into Canada, they left without arresting anybody!
