Then (c 1900): Three boys on inscribed granite ledge near the border on the east shore of Lake Memphremagog. The outcrop was inscribed on the orders of Captain William Robinson of the British Royal Engineers, in August of 1845 following the successful re-survey of the border in accordance with the Treaty of Washington (1842) signed by Lord Ashburton (Britain) and Daniel Webster (U.S.). Two boys on left are the brothers Frederick and Ruthven Douglas. Boy on the right has not been identified. Descendents of Douglas family still live in the area. Now (July 2017): The rock as it appears today; the engraving still legible once all the leaves and moss have been removed. For further information about the border survey and the location of the inscribed granite, see the "Field Trip to the Dunn Property" story, in the News section. Jeff Packard
